Seward Area Guide for Minneapolis Buyers and Sellers
Considered one of the oldest neighborhoods in Minneapolis, Seward is a beautiful place to call home in the greater Minneapolis area.
This community is overseen by the Seward Neighborhood Group, which helps to maintain the historical integrity of the community. The group was established in 1960 and was recognized by the city of Minneapolis as the official citizen participation organization within the boundaries of the neighborhood.
Seward: An Established and Beloved Minnesota Community
Seward has a long history of its own and so, it’s not surprising that the community is often described as a small town surrounded by a big city.
Perhaps one of the reasons for this community’s strong identity is that it has well-established borders. This community’s eastern border follows the Mississippi River to the Soo Line Railroad, which traces the southern boundary as it moves away from the river to the west.
To the west, the boundary is marked by Hiawatha Avenue, and to the north is Interstate Highway 94.
This community’s history dates back to the first rapid expansion of the city in the late 19th century, making it one of the oldest communities in Minneapolis.
The community has continued to flourish over the decades while still maintaining its ties to its history. This aspect of the community’s persona is definitely appreciated by those who decide to live here.
A Great Sense of Community
As previously mentioned, Seward boasts a strong sense of community that residents benefit from.
For instance, the community has nearly 40 block clubs in place within the neighborhood, which enables all neighbors to get to know each other and establish relationships.
Meanwhile, the Seward Neighborhood Group has also led several initiatives over the years to bring community amenities to residents. That’s why, with the help of the school system as well as the Park Board, the group was able to create the Matthews Park and Matthews Center in recent years, which was built to adjoin the new Seward Montessori School.
Additionally, thanks to its location within the greater Minneapolis area, this community also enjoys easy access to a number of fine restaurant and shopping establishments.
