If you’re renting an apartment in Uptown Minneapolis, and you’re wondering what to do with your free time now that summer is on the way out, don’t worry. Just because cooler weather is on the way, there is still plenty to do in and around the neighborhood. To help you plan your free time, we’re sharing some of the big events and favorite fall activities around Uptown.
Events in Uptown for Fall 2021
From shows and concerts to street fairs and festivals, make sure you mark your calendar for these events.
East Isles Farmers Market
Where: 1420 The Mall; Between Hennnepin and Humboldt Avenue
When: September 2, 9, 16, and 23; 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The East Isles Farmers Market has been a favorite destination for residents around the Uptown neighborhood for years, and early fall is a great time to get pumpkins, squash, and other late-season, locally sourced produce as well as cheeses, gluten-free goods, eggs, honey, and even handmade soap.
David Byrne’s American Utopia
Where: Lagoon Cinema; 1320 Lagoon Avenue
When: September 15; 7:00 p.m.
For one night only, see David Byrne’s American Utopia on the big screen at the historic Lagoon Cinema. This Broadway musical sensation was directed for film by Spike Lee and includes never-before-seen footage of 11 global musical artists perform with Oscar and Grammy-winning musician David Byrne. Called “simply spectacular” and “pure bliss” by critics, American Utopia blends music and dance with a call to action to connect with those around you and the global community.
Uptown Dog Fair
Where: Midtown Greenway near The Mall at Bde Maka Ska
When: October 2; 10:00 a.m.
Bring your four-legged friend to the Uptown Dog Fair! Held at Bde Maka Ska near the Midtown Greenway, there will be vendors, a pet portrait artist, pet demonstrations, and more. Plus, rescue organizations will be there with dogs for adoption, so if you don’t have a dog (and your apartment is okay with it), your best friend may be waiting for you here!
Open Streets Lyndale
Where: Lyndale Avenue S from 22nd Street to 54th Street
When: October 10; 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Just a few blocks from Uptown in the Lyndale neighborhood is the annual Open Streets Minneapolis event. Streets are closed to traffic along Lyndale Avenue South to let people fill the streets and explore the community up close. With vendors and local businesses, artists, and food, this is a great way to spend a gorgeous October afternoon.
The Purple Ones 5: A Prince Inspired Fashion Show
Where: Granada Theater; 3022 Hennepin Ave.
When: October 16th; 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
If you love fashion, you won’t want to miss this night to remember. This year is the fifth annual celebration of The Purple Ones: A Prince Inspired Fashion Show. The theme for 2021 is gold, so every designer is tasked to create stunning garments using gold as the main color. If previous years are any indication, looks will be avant-garde and groundbreaking, blending vintage themes with cutting-edge elements. The winning designer will be chosen by a panel of judges and crowned the Purple Ones Fashion Designer Winner.
Be sure to start the night at the Uptown Lobby Bar where they have classic cocktails and an incredible wine list.
