The Hale Neighborhood in South Minneapolis is part of the Nokomis community, along with Page and Diamond Lake. This sought after neighborhood is bordered to the north by Minnehaha Creek and to the East by Lake Nokomis, so residents are within walking distance to one of the most popular spots for outdoor recreation in the city. With Chicago Avenue and 55th Street creating the boundaries to the west and south, Hale is a small, mainly residential neighborhood that is conveniently located to Downtown Minneapolis, Bloomington, and the airport.
Named after Nathan Hale, an American soldier, and spy during the American Revolution, the area experienced rapid growth in the 1920s, similar to the surrounding neighborhoods. However, in addition to the bungalows, scaled-down Tudors, and craftsman-style homes, the area around Lake Nokomis offers mid-century modern homes, showing how there was a second wave of growth in the late 1940s through the 1950s.
