Nestled on the northern shores of Lake Minnetonka, just 15 miles west of Downtown Minneapolis, Orono is a Hennepin County community with just under 9,000 residents.
Named after the Maine town of the same name, this 25.15-square-mile community was first created in 1889 and incorporated in 1955.
Orono’s Public Golf Course and Other Amenities
For being such a small town, this community definitely packs in a lot of recreational attraction.
For instance, the town operates The Orono Public Golf Course, which is located near the north shore of Lake Minnetonka.
Found in 1924, this course has the distinction of being the first public golf course in the state with grass greens. The nine hole course features an array of topography as well as elevated greens, mature trees and much more. It is beloved for offering a challenging and enjoyable game for all skillsets who try it.
In addition to the public golf course, this community holds a number of public events for its residents each year.
For instance, the Long Lake Area Art Show is held for a couple of days every October. And the Three Rivers Park District also hosts various community events each year.
